Ethereal Mind

Everyone dreams at night, whether you remember them or not. Ethereal Mind is about delving into the aesthetics of how dreams take over our memories and emulate the feeling of abstractness in our imagination. Through mixing landscape images with encaustic paint, I created a layer over the image that represents the growth of a dream on a memory. In following one session of sleep, each piece in this series exemplifies a state of dreaming in the order of which they may occur in most minds, bringing the unconscious mind into the conscious light.

The word “Ethereal” describes something that is beautiful, airy, and otherworldly; just like dreams. Their fluidity allows them to dissolve into one another and flow through the mind, creating narratives that are separate from real life. The encaustic adds something to the natural scene that affects the raw and earthy quality to it, leaving it something that is physically impossible but imaginarily possible.
